Creating A Thesis Statement For Creative English Writing

Thesis statement is that sentence that contains the focus of essay and tells the reader what the essay is going to about. It is one of the greatest unifying aspects of a paper. it should introduced in the first paragraph and serve as the focus of analytic argument. Think of the thesis statement as a contract between the reader and the writer. It usually comes at the end of the introduction. Introduction paragraph should follow this format.

  2. HOW_ the events, ideas, sources etc. that the
  3. WHY- writer choose to prove his claim. the significance of idea in terms of understanding the history/ narrative as a whole.

  1. Determine essay’ topic
  2. Determine what kind of paper is and what kind of thesis statement is needed: analytical, persuasive or expository.

Things to avoid

  • Don’t announce the thesis , e.g. “This paper will discuss….”
  • Don’t announce yourself, e.g. “I am going to prove that…..”
  • Don’t ask a question.
  • Don’t leave your reader asking ” How?” or “Why?”
